Videos
Wanting to add another tool to my narrative creation toolbox, I started teaching myself video making in 2016, when I began to document my weekend explorations of rural Southern Alberta ghost towns and long-forgotten abandoned sites. I progressed in the craft of video making as I went, sorting out what approaches worked, and what didn’t, always pushing myself to be a more effective storyteller. As I became more proficient in filmmaking, amassing over 3,000 subscribers to my personal YouTube channel, I was tasked by local organizations and businesses such as Lukes Drug Mart, The Leftovers Foundation, and the University of Calgary to create online video content for their respective social media outlets. Eventually I would like to create both a full-length documentary and feature film, highlighting stories focused on Alberta.
Calgary History Video Project
In the spring/summer of 2018, as I waited to begin my teaching career with the Calgary Board of Education, I created four short documentaries highlighting unique aspects or Calgary’s history. Racking up over 194,000 views on YouTube, my video series was showcased on various news, television, and radio outlets, as well as used as a teaching tool in local classrooms. Although my recent focus has been on podcasting, my intention is to build on this series in the spring/summer of 2022.
